You can add filled rectangles and filled circles to your charts using our ChartNotes annotation tool.  Simply load your chart into ChartNotes and then click on the circle or square tool.  Next, hold down the CTRL key (CMD + drag for the Mac) while dragging out a circle or rectangle.  For more info see this article.
