StockCharts Support March 08, 2009

Here are some of the very common questions that we see day after day.  Please help us help you by reading these questions before sending in a support request.  Thanks!

Do you provide free real-time charts?

Yes. We provide free real-time charts to all of our users but only for US stocks.  The free real-time data is provided by the BATS exchange.  We currently are only able to provide delayed data for non-US stocks unless you sign-up for our "ExtraRT" or "PRO" service which includes the exchange fees and agreements necessary for us to provide you with non-delayed data.  When the markets are open, bars highlighted in yellow are based on either free real-time data (in the case of US stocks) or delayed data.  Bars highlighted in green are based on official real-time data from the main stock exchanges (ExtraRT/PRO).

Where can I find a list of all the market, breadth and sector indexes that you provide?

All of our index ticker symbols start with "$". We currently track over 900 different indexes in our database. Here is the list of all the indexes we provide.

I'm having trouble with your site. What should I try first?

The following steps usually fix many of the technical problems that we hear about from our users:

  1. Make sure that you have enabled support for cookies from our site. [Directions for Internet Explorer, Firefox]  You can use our Cookie Tester page to verify your settings.
  2. If you have any Internet or Privacy Filters installed, make sure that you have added "stockcharts.com" to the "Allowed Sites" lists for those programs.
  3. Make sure that you have configured any pop-up ad blocking software so that it allows pop-ups from "stockcharts.com".
  4. Clear your browser's temporary file cache completely. [Directions]
  5. Restart your computer.

A whole host of problems can be solved by following those steps. If that doesn't fix your problem try search our FAQ area using the Search box on the right.

Do you provide charts of commodities or futures?

Yes!  But only for end-of-day data. We hope to add intraday futures data to our site at some point in the future.

Our futures contracts all start with the "^" character.  For a complete list of the contracts we track, please click on this link.

In addition to end-of-day data for CME and ICE-based futures contracts, we also track the spot prices of major commodities in our commodity-based indexes like $GOLD, $SILVER, $USD, and $WTIC.  For a complete list of those indexes, please click on this link.

Which stock markets do you cover?

We provide charts for all US stocks that trade on the New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange, and the Nasdaq National Market. We cover most of the stocks on the Nasdaq Small Cap and OTC exchanges. We cover all of the major US Mutual Funds. We cover Canadian stocks on the TSX and TSX/Venture exchanges. We do not have data for Canadian Mutual Funds at this time.

You don't have the stock/index/fund that I'm looking for. Can you add it?

Probably. We track over 33,000 different ticker symbols and we add up to 200 new ones every day. If you need to see a chart for a stock or fund that we don't have, use our Symbol Request form to let us know.
