Extra ChartLists - User Documentation

Extra subscribers have exclusive access to charting tools not found anywhere else. StockCharts.com provides these users with a myriad of customization options, including the ability to:

  • Categorize their charts in up to 200 different ChartLists, each containing up to 500 charts
  • Store charts with live annotations that will automatically update over time
  • Create intraday charts with up to 40 days of data
  • Add up to 25 price overlays and indicator panels to any SharpChart
  • Create and store up to 20 different ChartStyles to be uses with SharpCharts
  • Create and store advanced, multiple expression technical scans
  • View complete scan results (up to 999 tickers)
  • Publish a list of charts for others to see
  • View up to two years of daily price data for any stock symbol

Logging In

With the Extra subscription, your entire service is tied into your username and password. Therefore, you must log in to have access to any of your ChartLists and Extra features.

  • To log in to Extra, go to the StockCharts.com home page. Click Login Picture_1.png to be taken to our login page.
  • To log in automatically every time you visit the site, click the Picture_1.png button, enter in your user name and password and check off the box next to "log me in automatically next time". We suggest making your Extra home page your browser's default home page for easy reference.

The Extra Home Page

The Extra Home Page is the main page of your account. This is where you can access all of the features available to your membership. This is the hub where you can manage your account and your ChartLists directly. You will be taken directly to the Extra Home Page after logging in. To return to it at any time, click on the members.png navigation tab at the top right of every page.

The Extra Home Page is broken down into 5 sections: the Extra Control Center, Your Membership, What’s New, Your Saved Scans, and Your ChartLists.

The Extra Control Center

This area is where you can access all of our main charting and analysis tools, as well as your ChartLists. We’ll cover how to manage your ChartLists later in this article.

  • Your ChartLists: Clicking this link will take you to your ChartList Management area.
  • SharpCharts Workbench: This is our main charting tool.
  • Our Public ChartLists: This is our Public List area where you can view what some of your fellow StockCharts members are doing with their charts.
  • Standard Scan Workbench: This is the workbench to write Standard scans.
  • Advanced Scan Workbench: This is the workbench to write Advanced scans.
  • Predefined Scan Results: Our Predefined Scans page.
  • Point and Figure Charting Workbench: This is our Point & Figure tool, which offers 3 types of charting.
  • Technical Alert Workbench: This workbench will allow you to configure up to 5 technical alerts.
  • Technical Alert Summary: A collection of common, interesting predefined alerts.

Also included in this area are quick links to the various instruction manuals for these tools (including the one you are reading now).

From the Your Membership box on the right, you can manage your account details:

Add months and save!Here you can choose to extend your current subscription service.

Your Long-Term Loyalty Reward!  All members who have more than 1 continuous year of membership qualify.  Click on the link to get your discount code.

Your Account Settings Edit your member information: email address, password, mailing address, or phone number
Edit your billing information: credit card type/number/exp date, or automatic renewal
Edit your newsletter preferences: enable/disable Chart Watchers newsletter or Helpful Tips newsletter
Upgrade your charting service or downgrade your charting service: Choose to downgrade to Basic or upgrade to ExtraRT or PRO
Your Notification Settings: enable/disable notifications for the Market Message and Public ChartList updates
Cancel membership: cancel your membership immediately

Your Previous Transactions: View and print past invoices.

What's New?

In addition, there is a What’s New section on the Home Page. This is where you will find announcements, newsletter links, the latest bookstore specials, and more. Be sure to check this area frequently to keep up on on StockCharts.com news!

Your ChartLists

This area can be accessed by either clicking on the Your ChartLists link in the Extra Control Center or by scrolling to the bottom of your Extra Home Page. It gives you links to all of the different formats you can view your charts in.

To create a new ChartList, use the "Create New List" link on the right side of the box.

  • Summary: When you choose Summary list option, a Market Summary screen of all the ticker symbols included in the list is shown. You can view the Summary prices using either end of day data or intraday data. Visit our Market Summary help page for more information on this feature.
  • 10 Per Page: Displays up to 10 charts on a single page. Further customization options and links to other chart types are provided beside each chart.
  • Chart Book: Shows each annotated chart on a separate page for in-depth editing and customization. Click on the chart to "flip the page" and view the next one, or click the Next link at the bottom of the page. You can also select any chart in the list using the dropdown list below the chart. Further customization options and links to other chart types are provided below each chart.
  • Gallery: Shows a Gallery View for each ticker symbol in the list. An intraday, daily, and weekly view chart is provided. Visit our Gallery View help page for detailed information on this charting option.
  • Market Carpet: For easy visual analysis of your list's performance, create a Market Carpet. Visit our Market Carpet help page for detailed information on this charting option.
  • CandleGlance: View side-by-side thumbnail charts for each symbol in your list that are great for a quick overview. Visit our CandleGlance help page for detailed information on this charting option.
  • Print: Use this display if you want to print out your charts. Page breaks are automatically inserted between charts.
  • Edit: The easiest way to modify the charts in your ChartList. You can add, delete or change symbols and comments, make your list public, change the chart style, and more. See Managing My Favorite Charts below for detailed instructions.

Making Your ChartList Public

At the top of the ChartList Properties page, you can make changes to the list. Use the dropdown box at the top of the page to change the list you wish to edit.

  • List Commands: Let you delete/edit the list, or create a new one. The Delete command cannot be undone
  • Name: Lets you change the name of the list.
    Click on the "Save" button to confirm your changes.
  • List Notes: Can be used to better describe the list, or perhaps a comment on the stocks included in the list. These notes will appear beside the name of the list on your Extra home page, in the "List Notes" field in the various chart displays, and at the top of your Public Lists (if any).
    Click on the "Save" button to confirm your changes.
  • Public List: If you want your list to be viewable by anyone on the Internet via our Public List area click on the "Make Public" button. You will be asked to fill out a form for your list before you can post it publicly.  Documentation on managing your Public List can be accessed in our Support section here.

As stated above, Extra users can save up to 200 ChartLists, each containing up to 500 charts. Charting pages such as SharpCharts or Point & Figure Charts allow you to modify your favorite charts directly from the page. There are two ways to utilize your favorites from these pages.

Method 1: Favorite charts can be quickly accessed, added, edited, or deleted by using the dropdown menu or arrows to the right of the ticker box.

  • To access a chart from your favorites list, simply select it from the dropdown menu.
  • To save a chart to your Favorites list, click the Add New link below the dropdown list above the chart. In the pop-up window, enter the chart name and select the list you wish to save the chart to.
  • To view all of the the charts in a particular list, select the list you wish to view from the ChartList dropdown, then click the View All link.

Method 2: Another way to manage a list's charts is through the links provided at the bottom of the page.

  • Add Current Chart functions the same as the link below the dropdown box above the chart. Enter a chart description into the dialog box that appears or simply press "ADD" to accept the suggested description. This selection can also be used to rename a chart.
  • Save Changes saves any changes made to the current chart.
  • Delete removes the current chart from the selected list.
  • Apply Style To All allows the user to apply the style of the current chart to all favorite charts in the selected list.
  • Manage the ChartList allows the user to delete charts, edit chart settings/annotations, move charts to different lists, edit the style of the charts, or add predefined groups of stocks to the list (eg. Dow Industrials).
  • View the ChartList allows the user to see all the charts that have been saved in 10-per-page layout. From here the user can edit chart info, add comments, or delete the chart.

Your Favorite Scans

On the members.png tab, click Your Favorites to see your Favorites Scans.

  • To run a saved scan, select it from the dropdown list and click the Screen_shot_2010-01-13_at_3.31.52_PM.png button.
  • To edit a saved scan, select it from the dropdown list and click the Screen_shot_2010-01-13_at_3.32.14_PM.png button. The scan will open in the User-Defined Scans page for editing.
  • To create a new scan, click on the Screen_shot_2010-01-13_at_3.32.43_PM.png link. You'll be taken to the User-Defined Scans page.
