Educational Resources

Educational Resources

StockCharts.com provides tons of high-quality online educational resources for learning more about charting, technical analysis and using our analysis tools.

ChartSchool

ChartSchool is a special area of our website containing a large number of educational articles that cover various aspects of Technical Analysis.

To access ChartSchool, simply click on “ChartSchool” in the menu at the top of any of our pages. You can also use our Site Search feature to find relevant ChartSchool articles on a specific topic. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the top right of any of our pages, enter your search term(s) in the box that pops up and press “Search.” At the top of the results page, select “ChartSchool Articles” in the dropdown menu to refresh the page with ChartSchool-specific results.

Instructional Videos

We have a large number of Instructional Videos that demonstrate how to use various aspects of our website. You can find a link to our instructional videos on the right side of our Charts & Tools page.

In addition, we strongly recommend that all StockCharts members watch our "Getting Started with StockCharts.com" video as soon as they activate their account.

Instructional Blogs

In addition to our various market commentary blogs (discussed here), we also publish a blog dedicated to helping you learn more about charting, chart analysis and using the analysis tools on StockCharts.com, titled “Don't Ignore This Chart.”

Typically published once per trading day after market close, articles in “Don't Ignore This Chart” are usually fairly short, featuring just one chart. They are intended to spur thought and exploration; however, as with everything else on StockCharts.com, they are NOT buy or sell recommendations.

The StockCharts Answer Network (s.c.a.n.)

Connecting with other StockCharts users is a great way to get questions you have answered. The StockCharts Answer Network (s.c.a.n. for short) is a free user-maintained message board/forum where members can ask for help from other members.

Examples of questions that s.c.a.n. is great at answering include:

  • How do I create a particular kind of custom technical scan?
  • What's the best way to trade the current market?
  • Which online brokerage website is best?
  • Can anyone help me fix my computer?
  • What are the possible tax implications of selling now?
  • etc., etc., etc.

These are examples of questions that the StockCharts Support team cannot answer because they go beyond the scope of the StockCharts.com website.

On the other hand, there are some categories of questions that s.c.a.n. CANNOT answer, including:

  • What's my password?
  • Can you add this feature?
  • Why is my account screwed up?
  • How much does it cost to upgrade my account?
  • etc., etc., etc.

Those questions have to do with your specific account situation, which is something the members on s.c.a.n. do not have access to.

Accessing s.c.a.n.

To access the s.c.a.n. board, just visit this link: https://scan.stockcharts.com.

Note that while s.c.a.n. is focused on discussing StockCharts.com issues, it is independent from StockCharts.com. Your StockCharts.com account cannot be used to log in to s.c.a.n.; you must create a new, independent s.c.a.n. account in order to contribute to s.c.a.n., even if you already have a StockCharts.com account.

ChartCon

ChartCon, the biennial StockCharts user conference, is a great investment in your technical analysis education. This event gives you the opportunity to learn from technical analysis experts such as John Murphy and Martin Pring, as they speak on a variety of technical analysis topics. In recent years, ChartCon has been turned into a virtual event, meaning you can get all the educational benefits without even leaving your desk chair.
