Chaikin Power Gauge Plug-In

Welcome to the Chaikin Power Gauge Stock Rating plug-in from Chaikin Analytics. This StockChartsACP plug-in allows you to quickly gauge the health of individual US stocks without ever leaving ACP.

The Power Gauge Stock Rating is comprised of 20 important factors that impact a stock's future price, divided into four component categories: Financials, Earnings, Technicals, and Expert Opinions. For each stock, these 20 factors are assessed and then combined into one easy-to-understand overall rating for the stock.

Chaikin Analytics calculates this rating for over 4000 US stocks on a daily basis. With the plug-in, StockCharts members can see the current overall rating for a stock, plus the stock's ratings in each of the four component categories (Financials, Earnings, Technicals, and Expert Opinions).

About the Ratings

Built by Marc Chaikin, the Chaikin Power Gauge Stock Rating is a proprietary 20-factor model that combines financial data, earnings information, expert opinions, and technicals into a single overall rating.

The rating is comprised of twenty factors, within four major categories:

The Overall Rating

The top of the panel shows the overall rating for a stock, which can range from Very Bullish to Very Bearish:

Very Bullish stocks are more likely to outperform their peers, while Very Bearish stocks are less likely to outperform.

Neutral + and Neutral - Ratings

In some situations, the Chaikin Power Gauge Stock rating may not agree with the actual technical condition of the stock, indicating that there may be some information driving the market which the model has not factored in yet. In those situations, an adjustment may be applied to a stock's ranking, resulting in a “Neutral +” or “Neutral -” overall rating.

If a Bullish stock crosses below its long-term trend, the Power Gauge Stock Rating will be adjusted from Bullish to a “Neutral +” rating. Conversely, a Bearish stock will be adjusted to “Neutral -” if it crosses above its long-term trend.

Investors may choose to use a Neutral + or Neutral - rating as a “call to action” for further research into that stock, ahead of possible price movements.

The Breakdown

Below the overall rating, an individual rating is shown for each of the four components:

This breakdown allows the investor to better see which factors are driving the overall rating. In the example above, Technicals are driving down an otherwise very bullish rating.
